REINVENTING GRASSI.SKD

Přehledně

Within the framework of the program “Initiative for Ethnological Collections”, funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation, we will be renewing many things.

REINVENTING GRASSI.SKD: In the coming years, we will be renewing our entire exhibition and much more as part of the "Initiative for Ethnological Collections" program funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. As a result, the museum is closed and will gradually reopen with a new presentation in spring 2022. Our event program will continue in an adapted form. We will provide information about our offers and current events on our website and social media channels.

RE:OPENING NO. 05
Protection!
from 18.01.2025
In January 2025, the museum opened another section within the REINVENTING GRASSI.SKD program. This new section of the exhibition is dedicated to the global topic of protection, which is increasingly the focus of international debate due to wars, pandemics and climate catastrophes. After all, protection means safety and security and is one of the basic needs of every human being. What we protect, why and how we do it differs depending on perspective, place and time. The starting point of this exhibition space is the henna-painted textiles of the Feija community from south-eastern Morocco. The symbols painted on them bring blessings and protect against evil spirits. The textiles were collected by Annette Korolnik-Andersch and donated to the Museum für Völkerkunde Dresden in 2019. The henna textiles are juxtaposed with collection objects from the GRASSI Museum of Ethnology from other regions of the world. The connections between these global and local perspectives offer insights into the multi-layered significance of protection.
