Colditz Castle near Leipzig is one of the most beautiful central German monuments and a curiosity of cultural history.
From 16 April 2024, rooms and stages of the castle's history will come alive again with the help of state-of-the-art technology. For the first time, the stately rooms and the
institutions can be entered and interactively discovered. And for the first time they tell their
adventurous stories - goosebumps guaranteed!
The exciting journey through time takes guests back to the Renaissance castle of Frederick the Wise as well as to the time of the Second World War, when Colditz served as a prisoner-of-war camp for high-ranking officers of the Western Allies.
Ten time gates open unforgettable insights into the castle's history, explain
extraordinary exhibits, show the furnishings of the rooms and invite visitors to experience Colditz as
the centre of political power during the Renaissance. Nine immersive escape stories
document the sometimes legendary and creative escape attempts of the allied
officers.
A treasure hunt via tablet complements the innovative experience and also invites families to
journey of discovery: Whoever finds the seven hidden items that were indispensable for an escape
secures a digital Colditz escape map as a reward.
