Following the successful year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, in which 253,000 visitors were welcomed to the six museums, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will continue to offer a multi-layered and varied exhibition program in 2026. Major themes such as utopia and myth, loss and mourning, but also everyday life and memories of the past will take center stage in the museums of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz.
With the exhibition "Traces of Proximity. Käthe Kollwitz and contemporary photography" (7. 5. - 30. 8. 2026), one of the most important artists of the 20th century is brought into dialog with contemporary photographic works. The exhibition combines major themes such as loss, war, mourning and gender roles and juxtaposes them with "utopia".
