Forest hike along the Dönitzbach towards Carlsfeld and over the dam wall of the Carlsfeld reservoir and the formerly highest sports field of the GDR back to Eibenstock
The route leads from the Tourist Service Center Eibenstock down to the market square, where the Rehmerbach and Dönitzbach merge. Initially, the forest path steadily ascends along the valley of the Dönitzbach towards Carlsfeld. Because in long past times people also went out into the snow in the freezing winter wearing their felt shoes ("Sapper"), Carlsfeld was also called "Sapperland." Just after Carlsfeld, at an altitude of 904 m, the dam wall of the highest drinking water reservoir in Germany (built from 1926-1929) is reached and crossed. The route then goes back towards Carlsfeld and above the village touches the next interesting point: at a height of 920 m, the highest football pitch (920 m) of the former GDR. The return path to Eibenstock does not run through the Dönitz valley but along the Carlsfeld path.
