The route leads around the Gerstenberg and offers beautiful views of the Eibenstock reservoir.

From the Tourist-Service-Center, the route initially leads to the town church and then turns right going straight north over the small Bühlberg with a viewing tower, past the bathing gardens and horse paddocks to the edge of the forest. Either staying on the path or already using a section of the Mining Educational Trail (Allerheiligenbinge: tin mine from the 16th century) on the right, shortly after the B 283 is crossed. Afterwards, you can re-enter the Mining Educational Trail on the right and reach the start of the actual circular route (length 4.2 km), same as if you stay on the main hiking trail. If you initially take the circular route to the left, the sparkling water surface of the reservoir soon appears through the treetops. At about halfway, a shelter and rest area are reached; the view of the dam is impressive. Shortly before, you can also walk down to the dam. Along the way, some display boards provide information about mining, forestry, and water management. Once back at B 283, the return route to Eibenstock follows the same way as at the beginning of the route. The asphalted bike path crossed was the steepest standard gauge track in the German Reichsbahn network until 1975.
