A challenging circular route with wave pool, vineyards, towers, and a steaming narrow-gauge railway.
Following the narrow path straight ahead by the hotel “Goldener Anker,” you arrive at Altkötzschenbroda. Following Bahnhofstraße you reach a traffic light intersection; cross it and follow Moritzburger Straße uphill. After a slight curve in Moritzburger Straße and another ascent you have the option to take a detour to our public observatory or continue straight uphill until you pass the forest park to the Sonneleite junction.
Here you can continue straight ahead to Moritzburg or continue the circular route by turning right and after about 100 m turn right again onto Kiesgrubenweg. This shaded path will surely refresh you after the exertion of the climb. At the end of Kiesgrubenweg turn right. At the next fork you have the option to take a detour towards Friedensburg and the water tower by turning right onto Obere Burgstraße.
Friedensburg was originally a vineyard house from the 17th century. It was converted into a gastronomic establishment in 1869 by the construction entrepreneurs Gebrüder Ziller. Through multiple structural changes, it acquired the character of a hilltop castle and shapes the town of Lößnitz as a dominant building. Formerly a popular excursion restaurant, Friedensburg is now privately owned. The water tower, located immediately next to Friedensburg, was built between 1916 and 1917 by French prisoners of war according to plans by building councillor Schleinitz.
You continue the circular route by turning left onto Buchholzweg and riding straight ahead until you reach Meiereiweg, where you turn right and follow downhill. After about 200 m you reach Bilzbad, named after Friedrich Eduard Bilz, the well-known naturopath. He created this bath in 1905 as a light, air, and sun bath. The outdoor pool is idyllically located in the forest. A special attraction is the UNDOSA wave machine. Here you feel like you are at sea, in the large powerful waves that create excitement every hour.
If you have taken a break and refreshed yourself in the cool water, continue downhill to the tracks of the narrow-gauge railway with a view of the Bilz pension. Before the tracks turn right into Lößnitzgrund. Here you can take a small break in the beer garden "Zur Meierei." With some luck, our panting “Lößnitzdackel” will come towards you or follow you on your way. For completely exhausted cyclists, there is the option from the “Meierei” stop to ride the bike to Radebeul or Moritzburg by train.
Just before the path rises again, turn left onto a forest trail, cross the tracks and Lößnitzgrundstraße and enter the forest path. Here you ride or push your bike uphill. At the top, you see typical steep vineyard slopes on your left where Radebeul wine matures.
You continue straight ahead, downhill following Lößnitzgrundstraße until you reach an intersection. Take the opportunity to climb the stairs on your left and visit the Hoflößnitz wine estate museum. The Hoflößnitz today comprises buildings from different periods, including the pressing house, the pleasure and mountain house, the vintner's house, and the cavalier's house, which you should definitely visit during a museum tour. The museum and wine shop offer wines from the Hoflößnitz estate and other producers from the Elbe valley for tasting and sale.
Following the circular route, turn right at the intersection, cross the narrow-gauge railway tracks again and then turn left uphill. At the top, cross Paradiesstraße and Winzerstraße and continue downhill until you reach Meißner Straße. Turn right there and arrive at the Landesbühnen Sachsen. In the main house in Radebeul, Landesbühnen offer a versatile and high-quality program as a multi-genre theater. The audience can choose from all theater genres – from opera and operetta to musical and concerts to drama and ballet.
Now cross the street at the traffic lights and follow Weintraubenstraße until it turns right, go through the tunnel and then you can use the bike path on the left side until the street ends. At the gas station, turn right and after about 150 m turn left to reach the Elberadweg directly. From here you can continue your way to Dresden or Meißen.
