Experience nature and fascinating facts in the silence of the forest between neighboring countries while actively relaxing – this is the hallmark of the border hiking trail On the Trail of the Red Wood Ant.

The hiking trail “On the Trail of the Red Wood Ant” begins shortly before the car border crossing Sohland/Sluknov (CR) and runs directly along the border of both countries to the tourist border crossing Steinigtwolmsdorf/Lobendava. It always gently winds uphill and lets you experience the mountain region in all its fascination and silence. The trail offers not only a pure hiking experience over 12.5 km but also a variety of opportunities for educational excursions, nature observations, and thus relaxation. A variety of exhibits on forest protection, botany, and geology await the hiking enthusiast.

This border hiking trail is a cooperative work of Czech and German participants and is also remarkable for the bilingualism of the exhibits.

Nine rest huts along the trail with location-appropriate names (Pascher Hut, Alpine Hut, or Customs Office Hut) allow for breaks and picnics from your backpack.

The hike can be retraced the same way back, but there is also the option to return via the municipality of Steinigtwolmsdorf or the villages Wehrsdorf or Sohland to the starting point.

In any case, it is worth lacing up your hiking boots here, and stopping by one of the good and reasonably priced inns in the towns provides an appropriate refreshment after an eventful hike.
