On 13 May 2023, Kanupark Markkleeberg will start this year's season. From this
day onwards, leisure sports enthusiasts can once again experience whitewater
rafting, DUO rafting, hydrospeed, wave surfing and bodyboarding as well as whitewater kayaking
at the facility on Lake Markkleeberg. The various offers can be booked online from the beginning of April 2023.
The Kanupark Markkleeberg is one of the most modern whitewater facilities in the world and technically comparable to the Olympic courses in Sydney, London and Tokyo. It offers ideal conditions for training as well as national and international competitions in canoe slalom. The canoe park is considered a tourist highlight in the Leipziger Neuseenland. In past seasons, up to 25,000 active guests and 450,000 visitors were welcomed to the canoe park.
One week before the start of the recreational sports season, the canoe park will once again become the mecca of canoeing: On 6 and 7 May 2023, the XXL Paddle Festival traditionally offers a varied programme for interested beginners and experienced canoeists. For the ninth edition of the event organised by the German Canoe Federation (DKV), numerous workshops, various trial offers, test rides with test boats, guided canoe tours and technique courses are planned. Registration is already possible for some of the programme items. Up-to-date information is available at www.paddelfestival.de. Admission to the Canoe Park is free for visitors. Fees will be charged for the use of the white-water canals and for some courses and workshops.
In May, the MITGAS Pupils Rafting will take place for the 14th time in the canoe park. A total
32 school teams from three federal states can take part in this extraordinary competition. The final will be held on 6 June 2023. Registrations are possible from 6 March 2023.
At the end of this year's season, the national competition highlight in canoe slalom will take place at Kanupark: At the German Championships from 29 September to 1 October 2023, around 250 athletes in three age groups will compete in Markkleeberg and fight for the titles.
