Since it is a circular route, the start of the route is flexible. The directions begin at the central car park (Kätplatz), which is well signposted by the parking guidance system and offers numerous free parking spaces.
Starting from Kätplatz, we follow Ernst-Roch-Straße downhill. We turn left at the next street above the retention pond and continue along Ernst-Roch-Straße to the nearby traffic light intersection. At the light, we turn right into Große Kirchgasse and follow it past the impressive St. Anne's Church, the largest late Gothic hall church in Saxony, to the marketplace in the heart of Annaberg's historic old town. At the market, we turn right and then straight down to Fleischerplatz and after 100 m turn left downhill into Fleischergasse. We cross the B 101 intersection at Schlachthofplatz (Altstadt I car park) straight ahead and keep left to follow Gärtnerweg, which leads us down to the lowest point of the route into the Sehmatal valley. On the left, the famous Frohnauer Hammer with manor house and tavern invites you for a short visit.
The route leads from Frohnauer Hammer following the Sehma river towards Markus-Röhling-Stolln. After about 400 m we leave the valley road and turn left onto the steep Markus-Röhling-Weg. We follow this past historic mining relics of the "10,000 Knights" deposit. After about 1 km, we reach a fork. Straight ahead, not far from the route, is the "Markus-Röhling-Treibeschacht" with horse gin, pony farm, and mining smithy (tavern - open weekends only), which is worth a detour. At the fork, the route turns left up the Plattenweg to Schreckenberg, the legendary starting point of the historic founding of Annaberg. At the end of the path, we turn left and tackle the last steep meters up to the summit of Schreckenberg. We take a break at the "Schreckenberg ruins" and enjoy the magnificent panorama of Annaberg, overshadowed by the local mountain Pöhlberg.
From Schreckenberg, we initially follow the ascent route and after 300 m turn left onto the street "Nach der Krönung" and follow it down to Frohnau. At the end of the road, we turn left onto the main street and follow it downhill. Shortly after, we turn right onto Turnvater-Jahn-Straße. After about 500 m, a narrow path branches off to the right uphill towards Scheibe-Gut and Teufelskanzel. The path soon becomes a trail, which we continue to follow uphill. After passing the dog sports ground at Scheibegut, the route turns left between fields towards Teufelskanzel. After another 200 meters, another narrow path branches off, leading us directly to the rocks of Teufelskanzel, from which there is again a magnificent view over the town.
We continue on the path and reach the houses of the Buchholz district, which was an independent sister town of Annaberg until 1945. We follow Gladiolen- and Asternweg downhill until we reach Buchenstraße. There we turn right and start climbing. After a few hundred meters, Geschwister-Scholl-Weg branches left towards Halde 116. Shortly thereafter, the path turns left again, descending a bit past garages to Halde 116, one of the few remaining terraconical heaps and a witness to uranium mining in the Erzgebirge. Above the roofs of Buchholz, the view stretches across the narrow Sehmatal valley between Frohnau, Annaberg, Buchholz, and Cunersdorf to the southern Bärenstein.
We follow the path around the heap until we reach Geschwister-Scholl-Weg again, which we follow further uphill to the left. At the nearby forest edge, we turn right and follow the path to the former Buchholz gallows. Here on the ground, there are still some witnesses of the place of execution. From Buchholz gallows hill, the path leads straight down past Wettinhain in the middle of Buchholz forest. At Wettinhain, we keep right and after a few hundred meters turn left downhill towards Schillerplatz and Schneeberger Straße (B 101). We turn left onto Schneeberger Straße and shortly after turn right onto Badeweg. Passing the "Badesanstalt am Stangewald" outdoor pool, the route leads us over a beautiful forest path to Sehma, which we reach at Buchholzer Weg.
We follow Buchholzer Weg to the main street (Karlsbader Straße), which we follow left for a short distance. We then turn right into "Am Graben" street and shortly after again left onto Cunersdorfer Straße, which leads us out of Sehmatal towards Cunersdorf.
At the fork, we keep right and reach Cunersdorf. We follow the forest path in the residential area to the right towards the church. On the main street, we turn right uphill and after 50 m left into Dorfstraße. Shortly after, the Cunersdorfer Marksteig branches off to the right, which we immediately take. The path leads uphill and gradually offers beautiful views towards Buchholz. Since the Stoneman-Miriquidi runs in the opposite direction here, consideration is advised. At the end of Marksteig, we reach B 95. Diagonally left opposite, Alte Karlsbader Poststraße joins B 95 - and we turn here. We follow this street over Lerchenhübel with its magnificent view. There, a field path to the east and Königswalder Marktsteig branches right, which we follow. After 500 meters, Königswalder Marktsteig is crossed straight, and we follow the narrow meadow path down into the Pöhlbachtal to Königswalde.
After a flowing descent, we reach Königswalde and the famous Stoneman Miriquidi, which we follow from here. The route leads us to the finale on the long and partly very demanding climb up to the Pöhlberg plateau. After mastering the two "key points" of the steep climbs at Alte Dorfstraße in Geyersdorf and the old bobsleigh track shortly below the summit, we deserve a break at the viewing terrace of the Pöhlbergbaude and enjoy the view over Annaberg-Buchholz.
Back in the saddle, the last enjoyable descent follows to the finish. Initially still parallel to the Stoneman route, however we do not take the turnoff to Flößgraben but follow the road to the intersection of B 95 at Kätplatz, where we started the route.
